Health Scare: New Date Announced For Mike Tyson Vs. Jake Paul Showdown

The much-anticipated boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, initially slated for July 20, has been rescheduled for November 15.

The bout will take place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, according to the Daily Mail. The rescheduling follows a medical emergency Tyson experienced during a cross-country flight on May 26. The rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano has also been moved to the same date and venue.

Tyson, 57, expressed gratitude for the medical team that attended to him and the event organizers for their flexibility. "Although we had to postpone the fight, I will resume training shortly," Tyson stated. He further acknowledged Most Valuable Promotions, Netflix, and AT&T Stadium for their diligent efforts to find a suitable reschedule date. Tyson, undeterred by the delay, confidently predicted, "While we have a new date, the result will be the same no matter when we fight. Jake Paul is getting knocked out. On Friday, November 15, watch this in-person at AT&T Stadium or live on Netflix."

The rescheduling comes amidst speculation that the bout would be canceled due to Tyson's health concerns. Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix expressed "genuine concern" over Tyson's ability to fight Paul following his medical emergency, described as an "ulcer issue." Mannix, speaking on 'The Rich Eisen' show, remarked, "Mike Tyson is 57 years old; he's almost 58 years old. They're saying it's a minor ulcer issue, but I don't think anything's minor at that stage of your life, especially when it comes to putting yourself in the proper shape to fight a professional boxing match."

MVP, Paul's promotion, previously stated that tickets for the original date would be honored for the rescheduled event, and refunds would be available for those unable to attend. Tyson's ulcer flareup occurred during an American Airlines flight from Miami to LA, prompting flight staff to seek medical assistance from passengers.

Despite Tyson's assurance of his recovery, the health scare was significant enough to postpone the July 20 fight. His opponent, Paul, is a cruiserweight with a 9-1 record in the ring. However, his victories have come against less formidable opponents, including former NBA star Nate Robinson and converted MMA fighters Tyron Woodley and Nate Diaz. Against professional boxers, the former YouTuber's record stands at 2-1, including a 2023 loss to Tommy Fury.

Paul's attempt to legitimize his boxing career by fighting Tyson may be a hard sell to boxing enthusiasts. Tyson, who retired in 2005, had a less than stellar record in his final fights, with a 1-3 record, including losses to Kevin McBride and Danny Williams. Despite these factors, the rescheduled bout promises to be an intriguing spectacle for boxing fans.
