The Writing's On The Wall: Kremlin Issues 'Concerns' About Trump's Guilty Verdict

In a recent development, Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the Kremlin, expressed concern over the guilty verdict handed down to former President Donald Trump in his hush money trial.

Peskov suggested that the case was an orchestrated attempt to "eliminate political rivals."

The New York jury, on Thursday, found Trump guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records. The charges were related to a hush money payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels shortly before the 2016 presidential election. Daniels claims to have had a sexual encounter with Trump in 2006, an allegation he vehemently denies. Trump has consistently maintained his innocence, asserting that the case is politically motivated.

At a news conference held in Moscow on Friday, Peskov initially stated that Russia generally refrains from commenting on court verdicts in other countries. However, he went on to say, "If we talk about Trump in general, it is obvious that there is actually the elimination of political rivals by all possible legal and illegal means."

In response to the verdict, Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, on Friday morning, stating: "I did nothing wrong, and frankly, there was nothing done wrong - NDA's are standard, commonly used, and LEGAL. MAGA2024! WITCH HUNT! IF THIS CAN HAPPEN TO ME, IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE!"

Todd Blanche, Trump's attorney, told CNN's Kaitlan Collins on Thursday night that Trump's legal team would "vigorously fight" the verdict. They plan to file motions before Judge Juan Merchan, who presided over the trial, in the coming weeks. "If that is not successful, then as soon as we can appeal we will," Blanche stated.
