Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has been discharged from the hospital and is now recuperating at home following an attempted assassination that left his intestine damaged in five places.

The director of the F.D.Roosevelta Bansk Bystrica Hospital, where Fico had been admitted for the past two weeks, confirmed his discharge last night.

Fico's journey from the hospital to his apartment in Bratislava on Thursday afternoon was marked by heightened police and security activity in the vicinity of his city residence, as reported by local media. The hospital director, in her statement this morning, expressed gratitude towards Fico for being a "disciplined patient". However, she also emphasized the long and arduous path to recovery that lies ahead for him.

Fico's discharge comes 15 days after the attempted assassination where he was shot multiple times. Until recently, details about Fico's injuries were sparse. It has now been revealed that the Slovak Prime Minister was hit in the gut, hip, arm, and leg by bullets or fragments thereof. The most critical injury was to his abdomen, where his small intestine was perforated five times.

Despite the severity of his injuries, Fico's health is reportedly improving as per medical expectations. He is now able to consume food and walk with the aid of a stick.

Earlier this week, government colleague Erik Kali?k disclosed specific details about Fico's injuries for the first time. He stated, "I was there [at the hospital], I talked to the doctors, and it was the millimetres that decided whether it would be fatal. It hit the small intestine in such a way that it was shot through five times, but the doctors performed miracles.

The suspected gunman, identified as left-wing poet and activist Juraj Cintula, was apprehended at the scene. He has since confessed to the crime and agreed to cooperate with the police investigation. According to the police report, Cintula expressed his intention to remove Fico from office through the shooting, but denied any intent to kill.

Cintula cited disagreement with Fico's policies as the motive behind his actions, particularly the Fico government's decision to keep Slovakia uninvolved in the Ukraine war. The suspect was reportedly eager to see military aid sent to Kyiv. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
