In a shocking incident on Wednesday, a Pakistani immigrant was apprehended after he was filmed attempting to mow down Orthodox Jewish students and a rabbi with his vehicle outside a Brooklyn Yeshiva.
Witnesses at the scene reported the man shouting, Im gonna kill all the Jews.
The incident, captured by the Flatbush Shomrim Safety Patrol's surveillance camera at around 11:25 am, showed the driver revving his 2011 white Crown Victoria before mounting the curb and directing his vehicle towards Jews outside the Mesivta Nachlas Yakov School. The driver, identified by witnesses as the one who threatened to kill all Jews, circled the block before once again targeting two students and a rabbi outside the school.
Members of the Shomrim, a Jewish safety patrol, located the driver at a nearby Dunkin Donuts. The NYPD was alerted and subsequently arrested the suspect, who was then transported to Coney Island Hospital.
The NYPD identified the alleged driver as Asghar Ali, a 58-year-old Pakistani immigrant and purported cab driver with a history of mental illness. The NYPDs Hate Crimes Task Force is now investigating the case. Ali, who has been residing in the US for over two decades, is deemed an emotionally disturbed individual by the police. Despite claiming to be a cab driver, Ali does not possess a valid taxi license and has four prior arrests.
Ali is now facing more than a dozen charges, including attempted murder, attempted assault, and hate crimes charges.
Rabbi Twersky, an employee at the Yeshiva who chose not to disclose his first name, shared his concerns with The New York Post, stating, I came in, and the boys were like Did you see the cameras? Did you see the cameras? Im more scared for them. Im much more scared than they are their adrenaline is up.
