In a recent survey conducted by Redfield & Wilton Strategies, it was revealed that 34 percent of New York City voters who supported Donald Trump in the 2020 election approve of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's performance.
This approval comes despite Bragg's involvement in prosecuting the former president in the Stormy Daniels hush money case.
The poll, which surveyed 974 eligible voters in New York City, found that 13 percent of Trump's 2020 supporters "strongly approve" of Bragg's performance since he assumed office. An additional 21 percent expressed their approval, resulting in a total approval rating of 34 percent.
However, not all Trump supporters are in favor of Bragg. The survey revealed that 28 percent "strongly disapprove" of his performance, with an additional 15 percent expressing disapproval, resulting in a total disapproval rating of 43 percent. The remaining 23 percent of respondents were either neutral or unsure about their opinion of Bragg.
When considering the views of all New York City voters, Bragg's approval rating rises to 43 percent, with only 17 percent expressing disapproval. The remaining 39 percent were either neutral or unsure.
The survey was conducted online between May 12 and 14, amidst Trump's ongoing trial in Manhattan. The former president faces 34 counts of falsifying business records over allegations that he facilitated a $130,000 hush money payment to Daniels, a former adult film actress, to silence her ahead of the 2016 presidential election. Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges and denies Daniels' claims of a sexual relationship in 2006.
In addition to the Manhattan case, Trump is also facing three other criminal cases related to allegations of mishandling classified documents and attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election result. Trump maintains his innocence, asserting that the allegations are politically motivated.
The Redfield & Wilton Strategies survey also evaluated the performance of Letitia James, the city's attorney general. James received an approval rating of 55 percent, with only 17 percent expressing disapproval. James filed a civil fraud lawsuit against Trump, The Trump Organization, and several of their associates in 2022. Trump was found liable for fraud and ordered to pay a penalty of $454 million, including interest. He has denied any wrongdoing and plans to appeal.
The survey also assessed the performance of New York's Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul, who received an approval rating of 54 percent. However, 22 percent of respondents expressed disapproval of Hochul's performance.
The poll's margin of error is 3.14 percent, assuming a worst-case scenario where 50 percent of respondents gave a particular answer to a question. This means that it is 95 percent certain that the true value falls within a 3.14 percent range from the sample result.
