In a bid to attract potential law enforcement recruits, the Miami Beach Police Department (MBPD) has unveiled its latest tool - a $250,000 Rolls-Royce patrol car, generously loaned by Braman Motors.
The luxury vehicle, equipped with lights and sirens, was presented in a video posted by the department, flanked by two motorcycle officers.
"Recruiting police officers in this country today is a difficult thing to do. Using this car to help us do recruitment is gonna be great," Miami Beach Police Chief Wayne Jones expressed to WSVN 7 News during a promotional event in South Beach. The unveiling sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, with many users exclaiming, "Only in Miami."
The MBPD, in its commitment to the residents and visitors it serves, strives to uphold the highest standards of dedication and quality policing. The addition of the Rolls-Royce to the recruitment team is seen as a testament to this commitment. However, not all reactions to the luxury patrol car were positive. Some social media users questioned the move, with one asking, "Is this an episode of Reno 911?" and another stating, "This has to be a joke."
Radio host and Miami native, Grant Stern, took to social media to voice his concerns, questioning the city's touch with reality. The source of funding for the 2012 Rolls-Royce Ghost also raised eyebrows, with many wondering how the department could afford such an extravagant vehicle.
In response to these concerns, the department clarified that the vehicle comes at no cost to taxpayers. The luxury car is on loan from Braman Motors, a dealership owned by Miami billionaire Norman Braman, and will eventually be returned.
Braman will cover the costs of gas and maintenance, with the police department only being responsible for any damage incurred while the car is in their care. The department and Braman Motors assured that this sponsorship aligns with city policy.
