Fear And Confusion: Gunshots Interrupt California Teenage Rowing Teams Final Push

Written by Published

In a shocking incident, a teenage rowing team from Oakland found themselves under gunfire while participating in a regatta in Sacramento, California.

The team, known as the Oakland Strokes, comprised of nine boys aged between 15 and 16. They were in the midst of the final leg of the regatta on the Sacramento River when the gunfire erupted around 1:30 pm on April 20.

A video captured by a parent, which was later obtained by KTVU, chillingly records the sound of three gunshots, each followed by a splash in the water, alarmingly close to the boat.

Fred Ackerman, a parent of one of the rowers, expressed his disbelief to KTVU, stating, "I was pretty shocked. I think all of us were. It's horrifying, to think in this peaceful, green setting, the final push of this race - to see and hear that." He further added, No one saw the shooter. There were dozens and dozens of people, there were boaters and people walking around on the trail. Police don't know where the shots came from, but they do know it was a gun."

Miraculously, the incident did not result in any injuries, but the shooter remains at large. The West Sacramento police have initiated an investigation into the incident and have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the event, heard the gunshots, or have video footage of the incident to come forward and assist in their inquiries.
