The New York City Police Department (NYPD) is currently pursuing a suspect in a Bronx rape case.

The suspect, who was caught on camera, was seen using a belt to strangle a woman into unconsciousness before dragging her away on a dimly lit city street.

The video footage then shows the suspect scanning the area before the recording ends.

The NYPD has confirmed that an unidentified man assaulted a 45-year-old woman in The Bronx at approximately 5 a.m. on May 1. The suspect is now wanted on rape charges, but authorities have yet to locate him.

"There is a report on file for sexual assault in the vicinity of East 152 Street and 3rd Avenue within the confines of 40 Precinct," an NYPD spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital. "The report states that an unknown male followed a 45-year-old female victim and placed a belt around the victims neck, causing unconsciousness."

According to the police, the suspect dragged the woman between two parked cars and sexually assaulted her on the street before fleeing the scene. The NYPD's Special Victims Unit is currently investigating the case, but no arrests had been made as of Friday morning.

The video, which was widely shared online on Thursday, shows the masked man approaching his victim from behind, wrapping a looped belt around her neck, and pulling her to the ground. The victim appears to lose consciousness within seconds, her hands dropping from a defensive position to her sides as he drags her between two parked cars.

The alleged assault took place at this location. Information regarding the victim's condition was not immediately available. The NYPD is urging anyone with information about the suspect to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
