The Irony Of Justice: NY Senator Challenges Law He Endorsed Amidst Rape Allegations

New York State Senator Kevin Parker, who previously endorsed the Adult Survivors Act, is now challenging its constitutionality as he faces rape allegations under the same law.

This act was also invoked in the lawsuit against former President Donald Trump by E. Jean Carroll, as reported by Politico.

According to the New York Post, Parker has contested the legality of the law in a recent court filing. The now-defunct law provided a temporary opportunity for sexual assault victims to sue their alleged attackers, regardless of the expiration of the state's statute of limitations.

Parker, accused of raping a woman in 2004, is facing a lawsuit filed in November 2023, just before the law's expiration. He has categorically denied these allegations. Remarkably, Parker, along with all other state senate members, voted in favor of this law in 2021 and continued to support it even after the allegations surfaced.

I voted in favor of the [Adult Survivors Act] to ensure all New Yorkers can seek justice and be heard, Parker stated, referring to the law that expired in November 2023. He further added, These allegations are absolutely untrue. My work and advocacy will continue.

The accuser, Olga Jean-Baptiste, alleges that Parker raped her in her home while they were collaborating on relief efforts in Haiti. The allegations have been labeled as "deeply disturbing" by New York Governor Kathy Hochul.
