Foremost Group CEO Angela Chao tragically lost her life in a devastating accident last month at her Texas ranch.
According to a police report released recently, Chao, while intoxicated, drove her Tesla X SUV in reverse over a wall into a pond on the property she shared with her husband, billionaire venture capitalist Jim Breyer. Despite efforts from friends and rescue workers, the 50-year-old shipping executive could not be rescued from the submerged vehicle, leading to her untimely demise.
The police report detailed the desperate attempts made to save Chao, ultimately concluding her death as an "unfortunate accident." The report revealed that Chao's blood-alcohol concentration was .233, nearly three times the legal limit in Texas, highlighting the impaired state she was in at the time of the incident.
Chao, who was hosting friends at her ranch following a concert in Austin, was seen on surveillance video walking unsteadily to her vehicle before the tragic events unfolded. The report also mentioned that Chao's Tesla struck a retaining wall near the pond, causing the vehicle to become airborne and roll into the water.
Despite the valiant efforts of her friends and rescue workers, Chao could not be saved. The incident was later deemed by Texas Rangers and the FBI as a tragic accident after a thorough investigation.
Angela Chao, a prominent figure in the business world, held various board positions and was well-respected among her peers. Her passing has left a profound impact, with her family expressing deep sorrow and gratitude for those who tried to rescue her. The loss of Angela Chao has not only affected her family but also resonated with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who announced his decision to step down from his leadership position, citing her tragic death as a contributing factor.
