In a recent display of heroism, Florida Representative Cory Mills, in collaboration with Michigan Representative Lisa McClain, orchestrated an independent rescue mission in Haiti, successfully bringing ten American citizens back to their homeland.
The rescued individuals were staff members of an orphanage in Port au Prince, including renowned author Mitch Albom, who has been managing the institution since the devastating earthquake in 2010.
The Detroit Free Press reported that Albom and nine other Americans were stranded at the Have Faith Haiti Orphanage. This information was relayed to Representative McClain by a worried constituent, who then informed Representative Mills, prompting him to initiate the rescue mission.
Upon his return to the United States, Albom recounted the harrowing experience, stating, "It was a helicopter effort and was pretty crazy." He expressed his gratitude to the two representatives, saying, "I want to thank Cory Mills and Lisa McClain, who were instrumental in making this happen as an independent effort. We were lucky to get out."
In a statement released on Tuesday, Mills confirmed the successful evacuation of the endangered Americans from the orphanage. He said, "I am proud to report that my team and I were successful in evacuating and rescuing a trapped, and at risk group of Americans from 'Have Faith Orphanage' in Haiti last night."
Mills further criticized the current administration, stating, "This recent mission reiterates a disturbing reality that under President Bidens leadership American lives are continually jeopardized. I have conducted rescue/evacs of Americans multiple times when Joe Biden has deserted them. There's a clear pattern of abandonment!"
The Florida representative also highlighted that this was his third independent rescue mission, following operations in Afghanistan in 2021 and Israel in 2023.
"Americans at home and abroad are more unsafe under Biden than ever before," Mills asserted.
In an online post, Representative McClain expressed her "deepest gratitude" to Mills and his team for ensuring the safe return of the group. Her sentiments were echoed by numerous others, who lauded Mills for his courage and commitment to the safety of American citizens.
