In an interview with CNN's Gayle King, Barkley humorously brushed off concerns about potential legal repercussions, jesting, "I will bail myself out and go celebrate."
Former President Trump's recent appearance at the Black Conservative Federation's annual Honors Gala sparked controversy when he praised his own mugshot, claiming it was highly regarded by the black community. Barkley, reacting to this, expressed his dismay, stating, "That was an insult to all Black people."
Furthermore, Barkley criticized Trump's attempt to equate his legal issues with the historical discrimination faced by the black community, highlighting the stark differences in their circumstances. He emphasized, "To insult black people who have been discriminated against all these years, to put them in the same category. I was just offended."
In response to King's probing, Barkley defended his stance, acknowledging certain truths in Trump's statements regarding the Capitol riot and election fraud claims. He emphasized, "They did storm the Capitol, they did say that the election was stolen. Those aren't lies, Gayle."
