Former Detroit Police Chief James Craig Makes BOLD Endorsement

Former Detroit Police Chief, James Craig, has endorsed former Republican Representative Mike Rogers for the Michigan primary, according to the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Craig, who had been campaigning for the Senate since October, suspended his campaign in mid-February, citing a "business decision" and potential plans for a 2025 Detroit mayoral run.

In an exclusive statement to the DCNF, Craig expressed his pride in supporting Rogers, a Trump-endorsed candidate who was encouraged to run by the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) in September. "Like myself, Mike has dedicated his life to protecting the American people, from his time in the Army, to the FBI, to serving as the Chair of the House Intelligence Committee," Craig stated. He expressed confidence in Rogers' ability to secure the southern border and collaborate with local law enforcement to ensure community safety.

Craig's endorsement adds to a growing list of high-profile supporters for Rogers, including former U.S. Ambassador to Germany Ric Grenell, Michigan Representative Tim Walberg, and Senators Katie Britt of Alabama, Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, Steve Daines of Montana, and Joni Ernst of Iowa.

Rogers' campaign has also garnered support from Macomb County's Candice Miller, the Southeast Michigan Chamber of Commerce, the Police Officers Association of Michigan, the Southeastern Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police, and over 30 Michigan sheriffs.

Former Michigan Republican Representatives Peter Meijer and Justin Amash, both of whom voted for Trump's impeachment, are also contenders in the GOP primary. Amash, who left the Republican Party in 2019, entered the race last Thursday.

A recent survey by the Marketing Research Group revealed Rogers leading the primary race with 23% support, followed by Meijer at 7% and businessman Sandy Pensler at 2%.

Democratic Representative Elissa Slotkin, the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination, is leading Rogers by a single point in a potential general election matchup to replace outgoing Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow, as per a poll by EPIC-MRA published on February 21.

The Cook Political Report categorizes the open seat as "Lean D," alongside other contentious races in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Nevada.
