The recent release of a bodycam video has shed light on the arrest of Raad Almansoori, a suspected killer believed to have left a string of female victims across three states.
This has sparked a custody dispute between Maricopa County's conservative district attorney, Rachel Mitchell, and her progressive counterpart in New York City, Alvin Bragg.
Almansoori's alleged violent spree spanned Florida, New York, and Arizona, with police finally apprehending him in Scottsdale, Arizona. "Raad Alamansoori was arrested by Scottsdale PD for driving a stolen vehicle related to a car jacking and stabbing in Surprise, AZ," the police reported. "It was later discovered that he had been involved in numerous violent crimes throughout the nation."
The custody battle over Almansoori has arisen due to Mitchell's insistence on prosecuting him in Arizona before he is extradited to New York.
Almansoori's alleged crimes include the sexual assault of a woman in Florida last year, during which he reportedly threatened her life and stole her car. Despite initially being held without bail in Florida's Sumter County, he was transferred to Orlando to face more severe charges, which were subsequently dropped.
Following his release on a $2,500 bail, Almansoori is accused of traveling to New York where he allegedly murdered Denisse Oleas-Arancibia in the SoHo 54 hotel. Surveillance footage suggests he wore her leggings as he left the crime scene.
Authorities believe Almansoori then traveled to Phoenix, where he is accused of stabbing a woman, stealing her car, and stabbing another woman at a suburban McDonald's. Scottsdale police apprehended him in the stolen vehicle, as shown in the bodycam footage.
In Arizona, Almansoori faces multiple charges, including two counts each of attempted murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, attempted sexual assault, and carjacking.
John Kelly, a criminal profiler and psychoanalyst, suggests that Almansoori exhibits traits of a "budding serial killer," including "disassociation" and a propensity to harm women. "It looks like he was on his way, was getting started, so it's a good thing they got him," Kelly stated.
Court records reveal that Almansoori has a criminal history in Arizona, including a 2018 conviction for aggravated assault.
