Democratic Representative Adam Schiff, a vocal critic of former President Trump and a candidate for the California Senate, has made a noteworthy move by purchasing advertising space on Fox News.
This decision comes after Schiff had previously called out the network for spreading election misinformation and urged advertisers to boycott it, as reported by Politico.
In a statement back in February 2023, Schiff accused Fox News and other media outlets of intentionally disseminating falsehoods to undermine the electoral process. He emphasized the importance of hitting these networks where it hurts the most their profits, according to The Wrap. Despite this stance, Schiff's advertisements are scheduled to debut on the conservative news channel starting this Saturday, as disclosed by Politico.
The California Senate primary has become a high-stakes contest, with candidates competing fiercely for the opportunity to appear on the 2024 general election ballot, vying for the seat left vacant by the late Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein. Notably, California employs an open primary system where the top two candidates advance to the general election, potentially resulting in a ballot with two Democratic contenders.
A super PAC supporting Schiff had previously aired an ad characterizing the leading Republican candidate, Steve Garvey, as excessively conservative, as detailed by Politico. In response, Democratic Representative Katie Porter, a rival of Schiff in the primary race, criticized his tactics as "cynical," suggesting that Schiff's true motive was to advance his own political ambitions at the expense of qualified Democratic women candidates and to bolster a Republican contender. Porter's sentiments were shared on X.
Amidst the intensifying competition, a spokesperson for Schiff's campaign emphasized the significance of informing California voters, regardless of their preferred news outlet, about the critical issues at stake in this election, as reported by the Daily Caller News Foundation.
Recent polling by the Public Policy Institute of California revealed a tight race between Porter and Garvey for the second spot in the primary standings.
