WATCH: First Encounter With ENORMOUS Never-Seen-Before Northern Green Anaconda

A recent video circulating on Thursday captured a remarkable moment as a man in formal attire swam up to the head of an incredibly massive anaconda, a groundbreaking discovery within its species.

The unveiling of the northern green anaconda (Eunectes akayima) was officially announced in a study released in early February. This colossal creature was spotted during the filming of the documentary series "Pole to Pole with Will Smith" for National Geographic. According to AccuWeather, this newly found anaconda, believed to belong to a species nearly 10 million years old, measures 26 feet in length and weighs a staggering 440 pounds.

The footage of this snake, shared by AccuWeather, is truly astonishing, challenging one's belief in the existence of such a colossal creature on the same planet where even a tiny chihuahua resides. Reportedly, the snake's head is comparable in size to that of a human.

Coauthor of the study, Brian Fry, revealed that the genetic variance between the northern green anaconda and the green anaconda (Eunectes murinus) is approximately 5%, a seemingly small difference. To put this into perspective, the genetic distinction between humans and apes is around 2%, making this discovery quite surprising for the researchers involved.

Expressing his astonishment, Fry shared with National Geographic, "I didnt expect that level of divergence. Its just mind-blowing. We were all of us very much doing happy dances."

Despite their striking physical resemblance, understanding the nuances between these anacondas is crucial as it highlights the specific threats they face. The limited distribution of the northern green anaconda renders them more susceptible to vulnerabilities compared to their southern counterparts.
