The Biden Administration went after Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida for his push to block a controversial African-American studies course from being taught in Florida schools.
The Daily Wire obtained leaks of the proposed coursework for this school, and many say that it looks like nothing more than a pile of wokeism being packaged as a proper educational course.
The College Board developed the curriculum for the course, but the Florida Department of Education told them that their course would not be permitted to be taught in public schools in Florida at this time. This decision has made many angry, including officials at the White House. They appear to be upset that the state of Florida is attempting to use its discretion about what will or will not be taught in the public schools throughout the state.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated the following about the situation:
If you think about the study of black Americans, that is what he wants to block, and But the state chooses to block a course that is meant for high-achieving high school students to learn about their history of arts and culture. It is incomprehensible.
The College Boards AP African American Studies is still in its pilot phase, and the company has not released the entire curriculum of what would be taught in a course like this. However, the pieces leaked to the public are damning enough that many want the state to step in and prohibit it from being taught. That is precisely what Governor DeSantis has decided to do.
One of the pieces of the course that would likely be taught is Mapping the Margins: Intersectionality, Identity Politics, and Violence Against Women of Color. This would discuss the idea of intersectionality. That is a term that those in favor of woke education tend to use when they talk about classes that teach about the systemic repression of minorities.
Another section of the course is known as Black Queer Studies, and a section of that part of the course reads:
This topic explores the concept of the queer of color critique, grounded in Black feminism and intersectionality, as a Black studies lens that shifts sexuality studies toward racial analysis.
There has been a lot of pushback from parents in Florida, which is why they are now actively looking to cancel any push to teach this specific course.
