Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced that he will be deploying state troops to assist Texas in securing its southern border.
The Florida State Guard and Florida National Guard will be sent to the Lone Star state to help construct barriers.
"Florida has been providing assistance at the southern border since 2021, and we are now sending additional support from both the Florida State Guard and up to one battalion of the Florida National Guard," stated Governor DeSantis in a post on X. He further explained that their mission will be to aid Texas in erecting barriers at the border to prevent the influx of illegal immigrants.
Due to the lack of action from the Biden administration, Texas officials have taken matters into their own hands by increasing personnel at the border, implementing laws to deter illegal immigration, and installing physical barriers to prevent unauthorized entry into the country.
Earlier this year, the Supreme Court ruled that the federal government could authorize Border Patrol agents to remove additional security measures that Texas had implemented. In response, several other states have come to the defense of Governor Greg Abbott, pledging to send members of their National Guard to provide assistance.
