A father and son were arrested on Tuesday following an alleged school shooting threat, with police discovering rocket propelled grenades (RPG) at their residence, as reported by NBC San Diego.
According to the outlet, a teenage student at Rancho Bernardo High School had informed fellow students on Friday about his plan to carry out a shooting at the school. This led to multiple reports being sent to the San Diego Police Department. Upon investigation, authorities found numerous unregistered firearms, explosives, RPGs, and materials for constructing ghost guns, both rifles and handguns.
Following the filing of a gun violence restraining order by the police, which allows for the temporary confiscation of firearms from individuals deemed likely to pose harm to themselves or others, detectives conducted a raid on the suspect's home to search for weapons, as stated by NBC San Diego.
The unidentified teenager was arrested and taken to juvenile hall on the same day that his father, Neal Anders, was booked into San Diego County Jail. The specific charges against the student and his 45-year-old father have not been disclosed by the officers.
While a thorough search of the school premises on Tuesday did not yield any explosives, police officers continue to remain present at the scene as a precautionary measure, according to the outlet.
In a statement addressed to parents, officials from the Poway Unified School District assured them that they would be working closely with law enforcement and the city's attorney's office to handle the situation appropriately, as reported by NBC San Diego.
