In a recent revelation by an independent Russian news outlet, it has been alleged that Russian President Vladimir Putin has set aside a plot of land in close proximity to a NATO member state's border, a mere 18 miles away.
Ilya Rozhdestvenskiy, a journalist from the Dossier Centre, shared in a video that the purpose of this site remains uncertain. However, based on satellite imagery, it seems to have been established within the last few years. "It is possible that an air defense system is being displayed here" Rozhdestvenskiy speculated. He added, "This is not the first time that marks on the ground - from the supports of military equipment deployed in combat positions from the air - have protected the president."
The land in question is located in Karelia, a territory that shares its border with Finland. The plot spans one square kilometer, or approximately 250 acres, and is encircled by an additional three square kilometers (around 750 acres) of fenced-in forest. This area is twice the size of Monaco, as reported by Radio Svoboda.
The luxurious compound is said to be shared by Putin and his partner, Alina Kabaeva, a 40-year-old Olympic gymnast and a member of the United Russia Party in the Duma. The property boasts a variety of amenities, including a brewery, tearoom, bathhouse, fishery, and a farm for marbled beef. It also provides private access to a waterfall and lake.
Rozhdestvenskiy further described the compound as having a "separate underground entrance, a helipad and a pier for yachts" on the adjacent Lake Ladoga, allowing Putin to "enjoy nature in complete solitude."
In 2011, historian and journalist Mikhail Solomatin reported on his blog about a group of individuals who, in the presence of a lawyer, seized the land on Lake Ladoga for the construction of a "recreation center." Following this, a fisherman who visited the site was stopped by a security detail that demanded his documents and questioned him about his visit. Residents in the vicinity reportedly relocated in exchange for monetary compensation.
The property is heavily guarded, with CCTV cameras and motion sensors installed on the fence that encloses the area, which is also lined with stretches of barbed wire.
In addition to the compound, Putin also has access to a restaurant and spa owned by his trusted oligarch and former Chelsea F.C. owner Roman Abramovich, located just two miles down the road. Yuri Kovalchuk, a close ally of Putin rumored to be his "personal banker," owns a hotel in the vicinity of the compound. His businesses primarily cater to Putins leisure activities, managing his real estate properties, according to East2West.
