Sheriff's deputies were investigating Shakir Khan for an illegal Internet gambling operation.
However, they had no idea that they would stumble upon a man who had helped commit violations of election laws on multiple levels. RedState reports that Khan allegedly registered 70 voters using his home address.
A search warrant of Khan's house found 41 completed election ballots that did not belong to Khan. Of the 70 people that Khan allegedly registered to vote, some did not live in the United States, and Khan may have cast the ballots for them.
On top of all this, RedState reports that Khan allegedly registered many voters in his home district so they could vote for him, although they did not live there. He used his contact information when registering these voters so that verification calls and e-mails would come directly to him instead of the people he was registering.
Glitches in election systems allowed these illegal registrations to move through the system, and ballots were mailed to Khan's house even though he was using other people's names to get them. Therefore, it is alleged that he was essentially signing other people up to vote so that he could cast their ballots and get more votes banked for himself.
The probe into Khan's dealings began as a 2021 investigation into potential illegal Internet gambling operations but quickly spiraled into something else entirely. Now, there is a belief that Khan has more going against him. It seems he might have manipulated election laws to try to advantage himself, creating unfair competition. It also appears that Khan might have been trying to tip the scales in favor of Joe Biden.
In 2022, after several court appearances, the judge ordered Khan to wear an ankle bracelet, according to reports by RedState. Law enforcement went to his home more recently to ensure that Khan complied with the court's orders, and they found there might be some deeper issues related to election fraud in his home. Investigators flagged all of this after identifying 70 voters registered to a single address, Khan's. Khan is in such trouble right now as we await the full details of the investigation into electoral malpractices.
