A woman from Miami has been arrested for allegedly harming her dog with a knife in an attempt to "sacrifice to the Gods to save humanity," according to a report.
Elena Barakova Cowan is now facing felony animal cruelty charges after allegedly cutting her dog, Sparky, "several times" as a result of a dream-induced compulsion. The arrest was made following a two-month-long investigation, and Barakova Cowan was taken into custody at the Coral Gables Branch Court building after 4:00 p.m.
According to the arrest report, Barakova Cowan told the police that she "had a dream that required her to complete a sacrifice to the gods to save humanity" after going without sleep for approximately four days. Upon waking up, she allegedly grabbed a knife from the kitchen and proceeded to "cut the dog's neck several times."
The 37-year-old suspect took the injured dog to a veterinarian for treatment on November 14. The dog reportedly sustained at least two superficial cuts and two deeper, overlapping cuts, as stated in the arrest report. Fortunately, the dog survived the alleged attack and has since been taken in for adoption by Miami-Dade Animal Services.
