In a recent statement, former President Donald Trump held President Biden accountable for the drone attack that claimed the lives of three US troops, ominously cautioning that his successor's actions are pushing the nation towards the precipice of a third world war.
"Joe Biden's weakness and surrender have led to this audacious attack on the United States, another dreadful and tragic outcome," Trump stated on Truth Social, following the lethal drone strike on a US base near the Jordan-Syria border. The attack, according to Biden, was orchestrated by "radical Iran-backed militant groups."
Trump, the leading contender for the GOP presidential primary, expressed his condolences to the bereaved families before asserting that such an attack "would NEVER have happened if I was President, not even a chance." He further claimed that under his leadership, the Iranian-backed Hamas attack on Israel and the War in Ukraine would not have occurred, and global peace would have been maintained. Instead, he warned, "we are on the brink of World War 3."
The overnight drone strike resulted in the deaths of three US service members and injuries to 34 others, marking the first American military fatalities in the Middle East since the onset of Israel's conflict with Hamas in October.
Biden, in his statement, attributed the strike to militants operating in Syria and Iraq with Iran's backing, a claim that Tehran vehemently dismissed as "baseless."
Trump, however, insisted that Biden's appeasement of Iran facilitated the attack. "Three years ago, Iran was weak, broke, and totally under control," he wrote. "Thanks to my Maximum Pressure policy, the Iranian Regime could barely scrape two dollars together to fund their terrorist proxies."
He further accused Biden of providing Iran with billions of dollars, which the regime has allegedly used to perpetrate violence and chaos throughout the Middle East.
Trump, who is vying to unseat Biden in the upcoming November elections, concluded his statement with a stark warning: "Our Country cannot survive with Joe Biden as Commander in Chief."
In response to the attack, Biden pledged to hold the perpetrators accountable "at a time and in a manner our choosing," stating, "We shall respond." Meanwhile, Iran swiftly distanced itself from the attack, with a foreign ministry spokesman asserting that "regional resistance" groups do not operate under Tehran's command.
