Fulton County Prosecutor Fani Willis has recently come to the defense of her lead prosecutor, Nathan Wade, in the ongoing case against former President Donald Trump.
This move comes in response to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan's (R-OH) probe into Willis, which seeks records pertaining to alleged corruption and an "improper" relationship between Willis and Wade.
The united front presented by Willis and Wade in their pursuit of prosecuting Trump during an election year is underscored by Willis' defense. The allegations of corruption against Willis and Wade were made by Trump and a co-defendant in Willis's case.
In a letter to Jordan obtained by Breitbart News, Willis wrote, "Your letter is simply a restatement of demands that you have made in past correspondence for access to evidence in a pending Georgia criminal prosecution. As I said previously, your request implicates significant, well-recognized confidentiality interests related to an ongoing criminal matter."
She further stated, "Your request violates principles of separation of powers and federalism, as well as respect for the legal protections provided to attorney work product in ongoing litigation. I refer to my previous responses to your inquiry for more detailed analysis."
Jordan initiated the investigation into Willis on January 12, following the acceptance of over $14.6 million in grant funds from President Joe Biden's Department of Justice (DOJ) between 2020 and 2023. The timeline of these funds suggests that the DOJ granted Willis federal funds to finance the prosecution of Trump.
The pressure on Willis is mounting. The Georgia State Senate approved a subpoena-powered investigation into Willis by a 30-19 vote last Friday. This Senate probe is the latest attempt to hold the Fulton County prosecutor accountable. In January, a Georgia judge ordered Willis to respond in writing to the corruption accusations by February 2, as reported by the Washington Post. This order will compel the prosecutor to publicly address the allegations on February 15.
Furthermore, Willis and Wade are anticipated to be subpoenaed regarding allegations of their affair during Wade's ongoing and unsealed divorce case. This potential information could shed light on Willis and Wade's alleged "improper" relationship during their case against Trump.
