'Non-Apology" Not Accepted: DeSantis Boycotts NBC And Affiliates

On Wednesday, Ron DeSantis' office declared they would not do any more interviews with NBC or MSNBC until a host rectified the misinformation regarding the Governor's education agenda.

The "non-apology" issued by the network was not considered sufficient by the Governor's office.

At a press conference last week, MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell questioned Vice President Kamala Harris "What does Gov. Ron DeSantis not know about Black history and the Black experience when he says that slavery and the aftermath of slavery should not be taught to Florida schoolchildren?" The office of Governor Ron DeSantis disputed the way the issue was framed, and there was some criticism of Mitchell's interpretation.

Bryan Griffin, who is the press secretary for DeSantis, posted on Twitter the following "There will be no consideration of anything related to NBC Universal or its affiliates until and at least Andrea Mitchell corrects the blatant lie she made about the governor."

On Wednesday, Mitchell added an "afterthought" at the end of her show, seemingly issuing an apology for her choice of words when referring to DeSantis' educational tactics in Florida, noting that she was "imprecise" in her expression.

"In my interview last Friday with Vice President Harris, I was imprecise in summarizing Gov. DeSantis position about teaching slavery in schools. "Gov. DeSantis is not opposed to teaching the fact of slavery in schools, but he has opposed the teaching of an African American studies curriculum as well as the use of some authors and source materials that historians and teachers say makes it all but impossible for students to understand the broader historic and political context behind slavery and its aftermath in the years since."

Fox News Digital reported that Bryan Griffin expressed his dissatisfaction with Mitchells response.

"I saw her post script, and it's a typical non-apology response that doubles down on her lie."

Jeremy Redfern, Deputy Press Secretary for DeSantis, posted the following: "Once again, @mitchellreports is imprecise in her description because she relies on unnamed historians and teachers. Florida statute requires the teaching of slavery and its aftermath. We just know that queer studies has nothing to do with Jim Crow." Redfern posted another Tweet: "Saying one was imprecise, when what they said was a blatant lie, is not an apology. @MSNBC /@NBCNews should not be viewed as an objective media organization. Stop letting the corporate media be the gatekeepers of truth."

A response to the thread on Twitter suggested a full embargo on NBC be implemented in light of the situation. Redfern responded to that with a yep.
