The senior inclusion officer of a Philadelphia-based social justice group hasnt been truthful about her ethnicity for years.
This is based on the New York Post reporting that Raquel Evita Saraswati, 39, has been outed by her mom as white as the driven snow. This is even though Saraswati has claimed to be of Latin, South Asian, and Arab descent.
The Intercept reported that Saraswati had been the chief inclusion officer for the American Friends Service Committee for years. Still, she has been lying about her ethnicity for this entire time. Her mother, Carol Perone, now says that her child is of German and Italian descent.
Perone spoke with the Intercept and said: I call her Rachel. I dont know why shes doing what shes doing, and Im as white as the driven snow and so is she.
She said, Im German and British; her father was Calabrese Italian. Shes chosen to live a lie, and I find that very, very sad.
Perone said that her daughter converted to the Islamic religion in high school, which appears to have made her feel the need to change her racial identity along the way. However, we all know that is not genuinely possible. She can change her look as much as she wants, but that doesnt make her of another race.
Her mother shared photos with the Intercept that showed her daughter a much lighter complexion than she presents today. She also gave them records from Ancestry.com that showed their familys racial makeup. She asked the Intercept not to share the photos with the public. It has all been a farce. However, it shows that there is nothing to the identity that her daughter has tried to put on for whatever reason.
Oskar Pierre Castrol, a human resources official who helped AFSC hire Saraswati, said that she was told that Saraswati was a queer, Muslim, multiethnic woman.
She also stated: In my mind it was, Great, a person of color, a queer person of color, who happens to be a Muslim, its a woman, all these things, and someone who seemed to get it.
She went on to say that she feels she has been deceived at this point. It is hard to blame Castrol for feeling that way, given all that she has gone through in this case.
