Nick Pope, the former head of the UK's Ministry of Defence (MOD), has made the startling assertion that NASA is covertly financing theological conferences due to concerns that unidentified flying objects (UFOs) may be linked to "demonic" forces.
In an interview with GB News, Pope suggested that NASA is attempting to preemptively address any potential overlap between UFOs and "demonic" entities. "I don't believe in demons myself but a lot of people do and certainly the Bible talks about these things in terms of unclean spirits," Pope said.
Pope's claims are not entirely unfounded. There has been a recent surge in interest in the Book of Enoch, a text that predates the New Testament but postdates the Old Testament. This book posits that God dispatched angels to Earth, resulting in the creation of a separate race of violent giants. This has led to a renewed focus on the possible connections between UFOs, aliens, and biblical research.
Pope also pointed out that there is a faction in both the US and the UK that believes some aspects of the UFO phenomenon are demonic. This belief is partly based on a passage in the book of Ephesians in the Bible that refers to Satan as the "Prince of the Power of the Air". He added, "I think that it is undeniable that many of the world's great religions have in recent years started to think seriously and do some theological debate about what the consequences would be of discovering extraterrestrial life."
According to Pope, the Catholic Church has "no doctrinal objection" to the existence of alien life in the universe, as "man may place no creative limits upon God." He further alleged that NASA has discreetly funded theological conferences discussing this topic. "I think it's more a case that they're hedging their bets and they're thinking if it's true, they want to get ahead of the game this time and not get caught up in the sort of science versus religion dogfight that we saw in the Middle Ages, for example, with Copernicus and Galileo," Pope explained.
As for when we might expect answers to these questions, Pope suggested that if the Book of Revelations is to be believed, we have a long, tumultuous journey ahead before Christ returns to Earth, potentially involving "extraterrestrial" invaders. However, until these events transpire, the matter will remain a mystery.
