In a recent development, Kevin Morris, the legal representative of Hunter Biden, has responded to allegations made by House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky.
Morris accused Comer of distorting the truth about his private deposition that took place on Thursday.
The deposition of Morris is part of an extensive investigation by House Republicans into the Biden family and their previous foreign business engagements. Following the deposition, Comer issued a statement expressing apprehension about Morris's financial backing for his client, Hunter Biden. He suggested that the lawyer's actions raised ethical questions, particularly in light of the millions of dollars Morris had loaned to Hunter.
Comer stated, "Shortly after meeting Hunter Biden at a Joe Biden campaign event in 2019, Kevin Morris began paying Hunter Bidens tax liability to insulate then-presidential candidate Joe Biden from political liability. Kevin Morris admitted he has loaned the presidents son at least $5 million. These loans dont have to be repaid until after the next presidential election and the loans may ultimately be forgiven."
Comer further alleged that Morris, by financially supporting President Biden's son, had gained access to the Biden White House and had conversed with President Biden. He added, "This follows a familiar pattern where Hunter Bidens associates have access to Joe Biden himself. As we continue more interviews this month and the next, we will continue to follow the facts to understand the full scope of President Biden and his familys corruption."
Comer also shared excerpts from the deposition, revealing that Morris was introduced to Hunter Biden by Hollywood producer Lanette Philips at a Biden campaign event in Los Angeles, California, in the winter of 2019. Comer claimed that Morris began loaning Hunter money, which doesn't need to be repaid until 2025, and even purchased $1.5 million worth of Hunter's artwork to alleviate the loan obligation.
However, Morris has vehemently denied Comer's allegations, stating that they misrepresented his testimony. In a statement obtained by Fox News Digital, Morris said, "When I first met Hunter, he was emerging from the lowest point in his life. At this time, he had no income and his wife Melissa was five months pregnant. Although he was being harassed by paparazzi, as well as people coming onto his property and threatening him, he had no security protection."
Morris further stated that he stepped in to support Hunter because he was concerned that Hunter did not have the level of support he needed. He added that he had consulted counsel on the transactions and was "confident" that Hunter would repay him. Morris also denied expecting any favors from the president or his administration in return for the loans, stating that his "only goal" was to assist a friend.
In a separate letter to Comer, Bryan Sullivan, Morris's lawyer, demanded that the committee release the full transcript of his client's deposition. Sullivan criticized the Republicans for their practice of leaking partial witness statements rather than releasing the full transcript, which he argued would provide the public with a more accurate understanding of the proceedings.
An Oversight Committee spokesperson informed Fox News Digital that the panel would soon release the full transcript, which they claimed would corroborate Comer's account of the deposition.
"The transcript will affirm Chairman Comers readout of the interview with Kevin Morris," the spokesperson said Friday. "The Committee intends to release the transcript soon, but we do not have it from the court reporter at this time."
