According to Democrat strategist James Carville, a third-party candidate in the 2024 presidential race will receive a significant number of votes.
Carville expressed his belief during a recent episode of his "Politics War Room" podcast, where he discussed the Iowa caucuses and their implications for former President Trump. Despite Trump receiving 51% of the vote, Carville considered this result against what he deemed as "not overly impressive opponents" to indicate doubts within a substantial portion of the Republican Party. He also noted that President Biden faced similar doubts among Democrats.
Carville expressed his concern that a strong performance by a third-party candidate could detract votes from Biden and the Democratic Party. He admitted that he feared this scenario, stating, "I don't know that, but it's my great fear." Furthermore, Carville predicted that if a third-party candidate were to run in 2024, they would receive a significant increase in votes compared to the standard 3%.
Carville has been vocal about his concerns regarding Biden's reelection prospects. He previously revealed that prominent Democrats had advised him to refrain from discussing the president's challenging path to reelection, despite his lackluster poll numbers and popularity. Carville shared that while no one disputed his claims, they cautioned him against making such statements.
