In a recent development, two voting rights organizations, both funded by George Soros, have come forward to support a veteran Democrat in his legal battle to secure a place on the ballot for the U.S. Senate in Indiana.
The Democrat, John Rust, was unable to qualify for the Republican ballot due to the state's election law, according to information obtained by the Daily Caller.
The election law in Indiana mandates that candidates must have participated in the party primary they intend to run in for the last two primaries they voted in. John Rust, a long-standing Democrat voter, only cast his vote in one GOP primary, which led to his disqualification from the Republican ballot. Nevertheless, Rust initiated a lawsuit against the state in September to challenge the election law. He emerged victorious, and the lawsuit is currently pending appeal at the Indiana Supreme Court.
Common Cause and League of Women Voters, the two Soros-funded voting rights organizations, have expressed their support for Rust and his lawsuit. Both groups have filed a motion to appear as Amicus Curiae in Rust's case.
In 2020, the League of Women Voters played a significant role in extending the deadline for mail-in-ballots in Arizona and recently initiated a lawsuit against Florida over its new election integrity law. Common Cause, on the other hand, was a strong advocate for the impeachment of former President Donald Trump.
"Across the country, George Soros is financing groups to get Donald Trump kicked off the ballot, but in Indiana, he's funding efforts to get a Democrat on the Republican ballot. It's more clear than ever that John Rust is the Democrats' Trojan Horse intended to disrupt the Republican primary in Indiana and keep a true conservative from representing Indiana in the United States Senate," Republican Indiana Rep. Jim Banks, who is also running for Senate, told the Caller.
Banks added, "Hoosiers are not fooled."
When Rust was approached by the Caller regarding the support he received from the Soros-funded voting rights groups, he dismissed it as "fake news." However, he failed to clarify what was "fake" about the amicus briefs and the support from the two organizations.
"This is fake news peddled by the insiders and the Jim Banks campaign who lack a winning record. It's clear Jim Banks lacks the support to win in May, and they're doing whatever they can to protect themselves. I know it. You know it. And they know it," Rust told the Caller.
Rust is no stranger to legal disputes. In November 2023, his family company, Rose Acre Farms, was among a group of egg suppliers found liable for $17.7 million in damages for conspiring to inflate prices.
