In a decisive response to a fatal bombing in Baluchistan, Pakistan, the nation's armed forces executed a series of military strikes on Thursday.
The strikes targeted insurgents based in Iran, who are believed to be responsible for the attack.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in Pakistan confirmed the completion of the "series of highly coordinated and specifically targeted precision military strikes." The operation, named "Marg Bar Sarmachar," was intelligence-based and focused on Pakistani terrorists operating in Iran's Siestan-o-Baluchistan province. The MoFA declared the strikes successful, resulting in the death of several terrorists.
The MoFA statement highlighted Pakistan's ongoing concerns about the safe havens and sanctuaries that terrorists of Pakistani origin, known as *Sarmachars*, have been exploiting within Iran's ungoverned spaces. "Over the last several years, in our engagements with Iran, Pakistan has consistently shared its serious concerns," the MoFA stated. The ministry also revealed that it had shared "multiple dossiers with concrete evidence of the presence and activities of these terrorists."
The "lack of action" on these concerns, according to Pakistan, has allowed the *Sarmachars* to kill innocent Pakistanis with impunity. This inaction led to Thursday's strikes, which were triggered by credible intelligence reports indicating imminent large-scale terrorist activities.
While Pakistan affirmed its respect for Iran's sovereignty and territorial integrity, it emphasized that it could not compromise its own national security or interests. "This action is a manifestation of Pakistans unflinching resolve to protect and defend its national security against all threats," the MoFA declared. The successful execution of this complex operation was also a testament to the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces, the ministry added.
Despite the military action, the MoFA described Iran as a "brotherly country," expressing the Pakistani people's "great respect and affection for the Iranian people." The ministry stressed the importance of dialogue and cooperation in confronting common challenges, including terrorism, and pledged to continue seeking joint solutions.
