Senator Marco Rubio of Florida has announced his endorsement of former President Donald Trump for the 2024 presidential election.
In a statement released on Sunday, Rubio highlighted the achievements made during Trump's presidency, including the expansion of the Child Tax Credit and the implementation of tough sanctions on the regimes in Cuba and Venezuela.
Rubio expressed his support for Trump, emphasizing the need for strong leadership to address the challenges created by the current administration. He stated, "Its time to get on with the work of beating Biden & saving America!"
This endorsement marks a significant shift for Rubio, who had previously contested against Trump in the 2016 election. Following his defeat in the Florida primary, Rubio withdrew from the race. However, in recent months, both Rubio and his fellow Florida senator, Rick Scott, have thrown their support behind Trump.
During the 2016 race, Rubio and Trump engaged in heated exchanges, with Trump referring to Rubio as "Little Marco" and Rubio labeling Trump a "con artist" whose administration would be marked by chaos.
Rubio's endorsement comes on the heels of North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum also announcing his support for Trump. As Trump maintains his position as the frontrunner in surveys, Rubio joins a growing list of GOP senators who have endorsed the former president, including JD Vance of Ohio, Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, Josh Hawley and Eric Schmitt of Missouri, Tom Cotton of Arkansas, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, and others.
