Dozens of individuals advocating for a "ceasefire" between Israel and Hamas, a Palestinian terrorist group backed by Iran, were apprehended on Monday after obstructing the entrances to various bridges and tunnels connecting lower Manhattan to Brooklyn and New Jersey.
The NYPD arrested over 120 individuals involved in these disruptive actions.
The bridges affected by the protests included the Williamsburg Bridge, Brooklyn Bridge, and Manhattan Bridge, all of which span the East River between Manhattan and Brooklyn. Additionally, the Holland Tunnel, which connects New Jersey to New York City under the Hudson River, was also targeted.
Although the NYPD has since reopened many of the thoroughfares, the activists' actions caused significant delays throughout the city. The disruptions began around 9:30 am, and it took approximately an hour for the Brooklyn Bridge and Holland Tunnel to reopen to traffic. The upper level of the Manhattan Bridge has also been reopened.
The NYPD had previously announced that "ongoing protests" were impeding traffic and affecting these major river crossings. A spokesperson from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey confirmed to local outlet PIX11 that approximately 120 individuals had been arrested.
