A South Carolina mother has been shot to death in front of her children in a grocery store parking lot.

Fox News reports that the mother was killed in a Kroger parking lot in front of her children after a confrontation with a stranger. This incident occurred in Irmo, South Carolina, and Fox 57 Columbia reports an argument between her and another woman before shots were fired.

After the argument ended, witnesses say that 23-year-old Christina Harrison allegedly pulled out a gun and began firing. The victim was later identified as 26-year-old Alexandria Cress Borys, and she was loading groceries with her husband in the parking lot when this disagreement occurred.

According to Fox News, the couple's two children, a two-year-old and an infant, were in the car when the shots were fired.

The Irmo Police Department reports that the incident occurred around 4 pm on Thursday and that officers arrived shortly after the shots rang out. They declared Borys dead on the scene.

After looking at video evidence and taking eyewitness statements, police determined that the two women did not know each other before the incident. It also needs to be clarified what the argument was about or what it started.

"Unfortunately, this is a situation where tempers flared, and someone let anger get the best of them. One rash decision has impacted the lives of two families and countless others who witnessed this tragic event." said Irmo Police Chief Bobby Dale on Facebook. He continued, saying, "Senseless is the only word I can think of to describe what happened today."

Initially, the suspect fled from the scene, but she voluntarily turned herself in around 5:30 pm the same day. She was booked into Lexington County Detention Center on Thursday night.

Records from the jail show that the suspect has been charged with murder, unlawfully carrying a pistol, and possessing a weapon during a violent crime.

The New York Post reported that the suspect was set to appear in court on Wednesday, but her private attorney waived the first appearance.

Tyler Borys said that his wife's death came just six days after her younger brother Brandon died of a gunshot wound. He also spoke with local news outlets and said that his wife was the best wife he could ever ask for and that she was a terrific mother to their children.
