Sad News: Secret Service Issues Health Update On Jimmy Carter

Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said former President Jimmy Carter had entered hospice care in his home.

Guglielmi stated that the Secret Service would be forever by Carter's side. This is because the agency has protected the former President for decades. It was agency policy that Presidents receive lifetime security detail provided by the Secret Service. The rules have changed slightly to allow for protection for ten years after the President leaves office, but the rule was for lifetime protection when Carter was still in office.

"Rest easy, Mr. President. " We will be forever by your side," Guglielmi tweeted.

This tweet was issued as the Carter Center stated that the former President would spend his "remaining time" at home.

The Carter Center issued the following statement:

"After a series of short hospital stays, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter today decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of additional medical intervention. He has the full support of his family and his medical team. The Carter family asks for privacy during this time and is grateful for the concern shown by his many admirers."

The former President had been diagnosed with cancer in 2015, but he had a growth removed from his body, and he appears to have been able to beat that health scare.

At the time, Carter believed he might have just a few weeks to live. He stated at the time: "I've had a wonderful life. I've had thousands of friends and an exciting, adventurous, and gratifying existence." He remained positive and knew to follow the doctor's orders in hopes of trying to extend his life."

A few months after the initial diagnosis, another MRI was done, and it was shown that cancer could no longer be found. His doctors declared that he was cancer-free at that point.

In 2019, Carter had brain surgery after feeling a lot of pressure in his head following multiple falls. However, he survived that as well. He has maintained a lower profile in recent years, given the COVID pandemic.

Many are thinking of the former President who was elected in 1976 today. He served his post-Presidency years working on spreading peace and trying to end suffering worldwide. Now, he will live out his remaining time in the comfort of his home and be surrounded by his family and other loved ones.
