Twitter lit up with ridicule for President Biden after an attempted hit by the President against potential opponent Ron DeSantis turned into an endorsement of school choice.
Fox News reports that the College Board has accused DeSantis of spreading misinformation and slander about the AP African American Studies course that it offers. Governor DeSantis said he would like to do away with this course in Florida because he believes it lacks educational merit.
Biden attempted to go after DeSantis on this issue by tweeting a Washington Post article and saying: I think every kid, in every zip code, in every state should have access to every education opportunity possible. I guess, for some, that isnt the consensus view.
Twitter users jumped on this as they noted that the wording that Biden used here seemed to indicate that he should be, in fact, of the conservative policy of school choice. However, no one truly believes that Biden favors offering actual school choice to students throughout the country. It appears he was attempting a misguided attempt at taking a swipe at Governor DeSantis. He didnt land the punch and ended up drawing more attention to himself negatively. It was undoubtedly a swing and a miss on this one.
Claremont Institute Lincoln Fellow Jarrett Stepman tweeted in response to the President: Um, so school choice? Maybe tell your union boss buddies how they arent supporting the consensus view.
Conservative political organization FreedomWorks tweeted: Biden doesnt know it, but he just endorsed school choice! #ampFW.
Some conservatives jumped on the story because it indicates that Biden might be more afraid of the Florida Governor than he cares to admit. He is trying to sling everything he can at DeSantis because he is apprehensive about what a matchup between himself and DeSantis would look like. Even though Biden is trying to knock DeSantis down a peg, it appears this attempt was a swing and a miss.
