Left-wing billionaire George Soros' Southampton estate was targeted in a swatting incident over the weekend, prompting a swift response from local police.
According to the New York Post, authorities received a distressing 911 call on Saturday evening, with the caller claiming to have shot his wife and threatening to harm himself. However, it was soon determined that the call was a hoax.
Southampton Police Detective Herman Lamison confirmed that Soros is the owner of the Long Island estate, although it remains unclear whether he or any family members were present at the time of the incident. Lamison stated, "Spoke to security, searched the premises. It was [a] negative problem," indicating that no actual threat was found.
This swatting incident is part of a disturbing trend targeting high-profile individuals and politicians. Conservative figures have been particularly affected, with Human Events Daily host Jack Posobiec and his parents falling victim to swatting on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Similarly, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene experienced swatting incidents on two separate occasions, while her daughters' homes were targeted just days prior. Legal scholar and commentator Jonathan Turley also became a victim of swatting on the Friday before the new year.
However, it is important to note that swatting is not limited to conservative figures. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu was swatted on Christmas Day, and Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows was targeted just before the new year.
Swatting is a dangerous and illegal practice that involves making false emergency calls to prompt a large-scale police response. These incidents not only waste valuable law enforcement resources but also put innocent lives at risk. Authorities are working diligently to identify and apprehend those responsible for these malicious acts.
