According to some, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is among the most delusional mayors in the United States.
She was criticized as the "Marie Antoinette of America's mayors" on Fox News's "Outnumbered" program. They made this claim because Lightfoot was recently seen dancing in the streets during Chicago's Lunar New Year parade. However, she does all of this even as the crime rate in her city has soared to very high and scary levels.
"She's pretty tone-deaf, but she knows, too, it's going to be a Democratic winner [in Chicago's mayoral primary] and she thinks she'll be the one," said Brian Kilmeade of Fox News. He continued by saying: "The only people left in Chicago, I think, are the Cubs. Besides that, everyone else is gone She is in a situation where, by February 28th, she's going to be in a primary unless someone gets 50%. They got until April, and then she has until April to prove that she's the best option."
"Fox & Friends Weekend" host Rachel Campos-Duffy also went after Lightfoot for ignoring the crime issue in her city. She said: "My daughter lived in Chicago for many years. She lost two classmates to crime during the time that she was there."
She went on to say: "These are little old ladies who get up at three in the morning, make tamales to sell to the blue collar workers who work, probably all over the city for all the rich people," and "You know what [Lightfoot's] answer was? Really? You want to sell tamales with a credit card?" Her answer was they should go cashless.
Others on the show went after Lightfoot for cutting the policing budget in the city. They say that she has had a double standard related to how she handled COVID lockdowns compared to how she handles the rising crime situation throughout Windy City.
Chicago Police data shows a 61% increase in crime in just the first three weeks of 2023 compared to the previous year's time. That is disturbing because there has already been a significant uptick in crime throughout major American cities in recent years. This is the latest troubling sign that things are headed in the wrong direction.
