Pro-Palestinian demonstrators clashed with law enforcement in New York City, causing chaos during the Christmas season.
Approximately 500 protesters marched through midtown Manhattan, voicing their grievances with chants such as "no celebration until liberation" and "Israel you can't hide. We charge you with genocide."
As the protest continued into the evening, confrontations between agitators and police escalated outside St. Patrick's Cathedral. The New York Post reported that several arrests were made near Grand Central Station and downtown near Union Square at 14th Street.
In response to the escalating tensions, the New York Police Department (NYPD) issued a "level three mobilization." Fights broke out between officers and agitators, resulting in numerous altercations throughout the city.
Despite the challenges faced by law enforcement, the NYPD held their ground as they were swarmed by impassioned protesters.
During the demonstration, protesters carried what appeared to be a nativity scene on a bier, parading it past Radio City Music Hall on 6th Avenue. Their chants of "Christmas is canceled here" and "long live the intifada" disrupted the holiday spirit. Notably, the baby being held by the figure resembling Mary was depicted as deceased.
The iconic Rockefeller Christmas tree also became a focal point for the protesters, who surrounded it and caused further disruption.
One of the signs held by the demonstrators read, "While Ur Shopping Bombs are Dropping." The protest initially began near the News Corp building on 6th Avenue, which houses offices for Fox News, the New York Post, and the Wall Street Journal.
The building had been identified as a target for anti-Israel protests, with a map marking its location as "an enemy of both the Palestinian people and colonized people all over the world."
