The survey, which gathered responses from over 770,000 U.S. workers between November 2022 and October 2023, identified the top 15 jobs that employees are planning to quit. The reasons cited for this desire to leave include stressful work environments, return-to-office mandates, low compensation packages, and the current state of the economy.

Industries such as technology and healthcare were particularly prominent on the list, despite some of these positions offering median salaries of over six figures. While some respondents expressed a desire to transition into different professions or fields, many were simply seeking similar roles at other companies, where they believed they could find better compensation, benefits, or work-life balance. Payscale also noted that the expansion of pay transparency legislation may have played a role in motivating employees to explore other opportunities, as it provided them with insight into the salaries they could potentially earn elsewhere.

According to Payscale's 2023 End-of-Year Job Market Report, these jobs represent occupations where employees feel stressed, underchallenged, burned out, or dissatisfied with their pay and benefits compared to what they believe they could obtain elsewhere. Notably, respondents who expressed a desire to seek other employment also indicated that they planned to start their job search within the next six months.
