Another One Bites The Dust: ISIS Official Taken Down By U.S. Raid In Syria

Written by Published

According to Fox News, a prominent ISIS official has been taken out by our military.

This particular office is known to have helped set up a prison break for extremists in Syria, so you shouldn't expect too much sympathy from anyone in the United States about this individual's death.

CENTCOM announced that a raid conducted by US and allied forces was able to decisively take out this individual. The raid occurred on February 10th, according to their announcement. They said that multiple rounds of ammo, other weapons, and even a suicide belt were found during the February 10th raid.

The ISIS official killed was Ibrahim Al Qahtani. CENTCOM officials did not state if any other individuals were killed in the raid and did not clarify precisely where the raid occurred. They needed to keep some of these details under wraps as they worked on providing the public only with the details that they truly needed to know about this specific raid.

Fox News reports that more than 10,000 extremists and ISIS fighters were detained in northeastern Syria. The breakdown includes 5,000 Syrians, 3,000 Iraqis, and about 2,000 other extremists. This is information that they obtained from the State Department.

Ian Moss, the Deputy Coordinator for Countering Violent Extremism and Terrorist Detentions, spoke at a press briefing about the issue and said:

"ISIS knows that prison breaks work. They are time tested and generate results."

He also said, "So far, we have prevented ISIS from freeing these fighters. But there are a range of detention facilities in northeast Syria, and we know they will try to attack them again."

Fox News reports that approximately 900 US troops are still in Syria, helping to fight back against ISIS.
