In the wake of recent revelations, President Biden finds himself embroiled in a controversy involving his son, Hunter Biden's law firm, Owasco PC.
The firm reportedly began transferring monthly payments of $1,380 to the then-former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. in late 2018.
This occurred shortly after a bank money laundering officer raised concerns about the same account receiving millions of dollars from sources linked to the Chinese government, without any apparent services rendered in return.
The House Oversight Committee released documentation on Monday, which included a voided check for the future president from Owasco PC. According to a source who spoke to The Post, at least three recurring payments were made to the elder Biden from the law firm, totaling $4,140, as per the firm's bank records.
Chairman of the Oversight Committee, James Comer (R-Ky.), expressed his concern over these transactions. "President Biden and his family must be held accountable for this blatant corruption," he stated in a video release. Comer further elaborated that the subpoenaed bank records showed direct monthly payments from Hunter Biden's business entity, Owasco PC, to Joe Biden.
Currently, Hunter Biden is under investigation by the Department of Justice for alleged tax evasion and other serious crimes involving Owasco PC. Comer questioned the Justice Department's efforts to prevent investigators from probing Joe Biden's involvement in these matters.
The White House has yet to comment on these allegations. However, it is speculated that these funds might have been intended to reimburse Joe Biden for car payments made on behalf of his son. An email from January 2019, sent by assistant Katie Dodge to Hunter Biden, lists various expenses, including a reimbursement to JRB for a Ford Raptor amounting to $1380.
The origin of these funds remains uncertain. Records indicate that Hunter Biden was deeply involved in controversial business relationships with Ukraine's Burisma Holdings and CEFC China Energy during this period.
These revelations come as House Republicans prepare to question James Biden, the president's brother, and Hunter Biden about the president's involvement in his family's dealings in countries like China and Ukraine. An impeachment inquiry authorization vote is expected later this month.
Joe Biden, while a presidential candidate, denied discussing business with his relatives. However, evidence has since emerged that he met with associates from both Burisma and CEFC ventures.
Documents from Hunter Biden's abandoned laptop show that Burisma board adviser Vadym Pozharskyi sought bank reference information a day before the initial transfer to Joe Biden was requested. Joe Biden had previously met Pozharskyi at a dinner in DC's Caf Milano in April 2015.
Hunter Biden was also in the process of disbursing millions of dollars received from CEFC China Energy, one of two major Biden family dealings with Chinese government-linked firms. An internal Bank Secrecy Act expert had warned colleagues to reconsider their relationship with Hunter due to Owasco PC seemingly receiving Chinese funds without any services rendered.
Previous bank records released by the Oversight Committee show that Joe Biden received payments from his brother James, who was also involved in the CEFC venture. Comer alleged that the $40,000 transferred to Joe Biden's bank account in September 2017 was from "laundered" Chinese funds.
The White House maintains that both transfers were loan repayments, but Republicans argue they have not seen loan agreement documents.
They also note that the funds distributed to James came from a law firm, rather than Joe Biden himself, further complicating the situation. As these allegations continue to unfold, the Biden family finds itself under increasing scrutiny.
