President Biden reached out to Argentina's president-elect, Javier Milei, to extend his congratulations on his recent victory, as confirmed by the White House.

The call between the two leaders centered on acknowledging Milei's election and discussing areas of mutual interest.

In recognizing the successful electoral process in Argentina, President Biden commended the country's democratic institutions for their resilience. The conversation also touched upon shared priorities and the importance of further strengthening the bilateral relationship.

Milei, a newcomer to Argentinian politics and self-proclaimed "anarcho-capitalist," secured a decisive win over Economy Minister Sergio Massa, garnering 55.7 percent of the vote compared to Massa's 44.3 percent. This victory signifies a rightward shift for Argentina, with Milei emerging triumphant in all but three of the country's provinces.

The White House readout further highlighted the discussion between President Biden and President-elect Milei, emphasizing the need to build upon the existing strong ties between their nations. Economic matters, regional and multilateral cooperation, as well as shared priorities such as human rights protection, addressing food insecurity, and investing in clean energy, were among the topics explored.

Former President Trump also extended his congratulations to Milei, expressing his pride in the Argentinian leader on Truth Social. Some have drawn comparisons between Milei and Trump, with Trump stating, "You will turn your Country around and truly Make Argentina Great Again!"

Prior to the election, Milei, who initially gained prominence in the television industry, raised concerns about voter fraud and pledged to streamline bureaucratic ministries. He has also expressed admiration for Trump.

In his victory speech, Milei declared that the "reconstruction of Argentina begins today," signaling his commitment to initiating transformative change in the country.
