A registered sex offender has been taken into custody and charged with a new offense following a deadly shooting outside an RTS Transit Center in Rochester, New York.

According to WHAM, law enforcement officials have identified the suspect as 44-year-old Jamel Robinson. Witnesses reported that Robinson followed 38-year-old Kevin Rigdon from the bus station towards St. Paul Street on Tuesday morning at approximately 7:45 am. Robinson then allegedly produced a 9mm pistol and fired multiple shots at Rigdon. He also reportedly fired at another individual before fleeing the scene.

Robinson now faces several charges in connection with the shooting, including second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Tragically, Rigdon succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The second victim, a man in his 40s, is currently in critical condition at a local hospital.

While Robinson was acquainted with the victims, authorities have yet to determine a motive for the shooting.

Following the incident, police received a description of the suspect and located Robinson near an exit of the Sibley Tower Building. They apprehended him with minimal force before he could access the loaded 9mm handgun concealed in his pocket.

It is important to note that Robinson is prohibited from possessing firearms in New York State due to his criminal history. He has been convicted of seven misdemeanors and two felonies, including a criminal sex act. Robinson was released from lifetime parole in August 2022 and is a registered sex offender.

Robinson is currently being held at the Monroe County Jail as the investigation continues.
