Homeless encampments have been set up inside of O'Hare Airport in Chicago.
The Daily Mail reports that these encampments are starting to pick up in size in crime-ridden Chicago. Even worse, pictures have started to show up on social media and other areas that show that the people living in the Chicago homeless encampments are living in filthy conditions in the airport. It is certainly something of concern to those who use the airport and everyone else in the area.
The Daily Mail reports that thousands of people are sleeping inside the airport's homeless encampments. Many people took pictures of the encampments, and one social media user posted them on Twitter to show people's conditions throughout the airport. There are so many now that they are sleeping near the baggage claims.
One photo showed a man collapsed in the entrance vestibule. Another photo showed approximately a half-dozen homeless individuals gathered around the escalators in the airport. Some of the individuals had no shoes at all.
People on Twitter began to ask where the leadership in Chicago is when things like this are allowed to continue. It is something that has yet to be resolved by city leadership, and it is something that only continues to get worse with each passing day. Therefore, there are legitimate concerns all around.
One user on Twitter wrote: "I flew back to O'Hare, Terminal 3, last week. I had never seen such a homeless problem, in baggage, in the 50 years I have lived in Cook Co."
Another said: 'It's not even that cold out! It was dystopian.' also, aggressively hit-up with 'ya need a ride?' in baggage.
O'Hare Airport does not have any honest answer to the situation happening in its location. They appear to have turned a blind eye to the whole situation.
Jessica Dubuar, director of health and specialty services, spoke with Block Club Chicago and said: "Our January at O'Hare was one of the busiest Januarys we ever had."
She also said that her organization is being increasingly contacted by people who have never been involved with the support systems that are sometimes granted to those dealing with homelessness. Many new faces are looking for help, and it is at a crisis level at this point.
