JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon has reportedly been engaging in private meetings with Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, according to a top banking source who spoke with Axios.
These discussions are said to primarily revolve around the global economy, with Dimon expressing his belief that Haley has the potential to unite the country.
This development could indicate a growing enthusiasm within the establishment for Haley, who previously served as a United Nations ambassador and as the governor of South Carolina. Notably, Haley tied with Florida Governor and fellow GOP candidate Ron DeSantis in a recent poll conducted by Emerson College.
Axios further reported that Dimon admires Haley's understanding of the economy and her perspective on how business and government can collaborate to foster economic growth.
It is worth mentioning that Dimon's name has recently been linked to a lawsuit involving convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. In a deposition, the JPMorgan Chase chief executive denied ever meeting Epstein, exchanging emails with him, or discussing his accounts with the bank internally. JPMorgan Chase, the largest bank in the United States, has been sued by the US Virgin Islands and several women who claim to be victims of Epstein, seeking damages as a result.
The Wall Street Journal also reported that numerous senior bankers from JPMorgan Chase had met with Epstein after his 2008 conviction for procuring child prostitution in Florida.
In response to these allegations, JPMorgan Chase issued an official statement acknowledging that any association with Epstein was a mistake in hindsight. However, the bank maintains that the lawsuits are misdirected as they did not assist Epstein in committing his crimes.
As of now, Haley's campaign has not provided any comments regarding the alleged conversations with Dimon, according to Axios.
