Presidential candidate Nikki Haley faced criticism from Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk on Monday following her announcement that, if elected, she would implement a policy requiring social media users to be verified by their real names in order to safeguard national security.
Ramaswamy, a fellow presidential contender, expressed his disapproval, stating, "This is disgusting." He has consistently emphasized his commitment to "free speech absolutism."
Musk, known for his staunch advocacy of free speech rights, responded, "Super messed up. She can stop pretending to run for president now." Musk's support for free speech is evident in his acquisition of the Twitter platform, which had been accused of suppressing free speech. It was later revealed that Twitter executives had colluded with the government to suppress content under the guise of combating "misinformation" and "disinformation."
During her announcement, Haley passionately declared, "When I assume office, the first step we must take is to require social media companies to disclose their algorithms to the American public. Americans should know why certain content is being promoted. Secondly, every individual on social media should be verified using their real names."
Haley argued that such a policy would address national security concerns, stating, "First and foremost, it is a national security threat. By implementing this policy, individuals will be held accountable for their statements. It will eliminate the presence of Russian, Iranian, and Chinese bots. Furthermore, it will promote civility when people are aware that their name is tied to their words."
The news anchor interjected, emphasizing the importance of accountability.
Haley continued, "When individuals know that their pastors and family members will see their posts, it will benefit our children and our nation."
