Joy Behar, co-host of the ABC talk show "The View," has issued a bold challenge to former President Donald Trump, inviting him to target her and her co-hosts if he returns to the presidency and seeks retribution against his political adversaries.
Behar's defiant statement came during a discussion on the show about reports suggesting that Trump's potential second term could be marked by a campaign of retaliation against those who opposed him during his first term, including media figures.
During the Friday episode, Behar referenced a recent Univision interview in which Trump outlined his potential agenda if re-elected. "He laid out his agenda if hes elected president again. And it seems like the first item on his list after he gets out of prison is revenge," Behar stated.
The co-host played a clip from the interview where Trump suggested that the alleged misuse of the Department of Justice against him "could certainly happen in reverse." Trump added, "What theyve done is theyve released the genie out of the box," a statement that led the co-hosts of "The View" to ponder the implications for the nation and their program.
Following the clip, co-host Ana Navarro commented, "I dont know, but if hes weaponizing government against his opponents, boy, are we in trouble."
Behar compared Trump's comments to "Nixons enemy list," while co-host Sunny Hostin likened it to "history repeating itself," evoking memories of "McCarthyism" and "J. Edgar Hoovers list."
Behar cautioned Trump's supporters about the potential consequences of his vengeful agenda, saying, "Dont his supporters see that he turns on people that are in his corner? If you dare to go against him even this much, he goes bananas on you."
Hostin described Trump's intentions as indicative of a "dictatorship," and Behar warned that Trump's voters "will be the next victims of this vitriol."
Alyssa Farah Griffin, another co-host, suggested that Trump's motivations for running for president again are twofold: "to stay out of jail, and to get revenge on his enemies. And when he speaks we should listen and, frankly, its scary."
Griffin speculated about the individuals Trump might target, including former allies such as ex-Vice President Mike Pence and former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly. Hostin added "journalists" to the potential target list, and Behar included herself and her co-hosts, asking, "Us. What about us?"
In a direct address to the camera, Behar dared Trump to target her show, declaring, "Try it! Go ahead! Try it! We have this show every day! Okay, Donald?"
