Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) delivered a speech in New Jersey on Sunday that was met with disruption from protestors advocating for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war.
The conflict between Israel and Hamas began when the Palestinian terror group launched an attack on October 7, prompting Israel to declare war.
In the midst of his speech, Booker addressed the crowd, stating, "And what a call out to everybody right now these final hours. This is what's on the ballot. We should know in New Jersey how privileged we are. There are so many places in our country right now, where people want to make sure that we have..." However, before he could finish his sentence, audible chants of "ceasefire now" erupted from the crowd. Some protestors could be seen wearing white gloves stained with a blood-colored substance.
Booker initially responded to the disruption by acknowledging the power of protest and free speech in America, stating, "This is what makes America great: The power to protest, the power to have free speech, the power of America." Despite the ongoing chants, the audio system began playing the song "We Are Family."
In a show of solidarity, the New Jersey senator joined in the chanting, repeatedly shouting, "Column A, all the way!"
Booker himself was in Israel when the surprise attack occurred and expressed being "shaken" by the events that unfolded.
