A man in Ohio found himself in a precarious situation when he attempted to steal a vehicle from a wrecking yard.
Perched approximately 20 feet above the ground, the suspect awaited the arrival of the police to apprehend him. The entire incident was captured on bodycam footage from the Akron police.
In the video, officers can be seen carefully lowering the SUV to the ground before taking the suspect into custody. Curious about his identity, one of the officers asks, "What's your name, man?" to which the handcuffed suspect defiantly replies, "None of your business, bro."
When informed that he was under arrest, the suspect questions the reason for his apprehension, claiming that he was running from someone. Meanwhile, the officer who recorded the footage speaks with employees at the Arlington Auto Wrecking business, where the incident took place. The man who operated the loader to secure the suspect explains, "This car's bouncing, getting ready to flip off the forklift."
The 911 call made by the business employee further sheds light on the bizarre situation. Describing the scene to the dispatcher, the employee states, "So, he's still in the car about 20 feet in the air in the loader." The dispatcher, seemingly amused, responds with a laugh, saying, "Wonderful, that is the greatest thing I've ever heard. We will get somebody out to you."
According to the employees at Arlington Auto Wrecking, this is the third incident involving the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Alexander Funk. However, it is the first time he has been apprehended.
The footage, shared by the Akron Police Department, is dated October 17 and also includes officers discussing the events at the jail. One officer recounts, "He broke into a car at the junkyard, and before he could get out, they got like a forklift, and they had him, I'm not kidding, like 20 feet off the ground. So when we got there, he went right into custody."
Funk now faces charges of criminal trespassing and possessing criminal tools.
